An investigation into a May traffic stop in Pineville that turned into a chase and fatal shooting has been closed, after the release of the Coroner’s report. The coroner ruled that 25 year old Cedric Prevot died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation into the incident was conducted by the Pineville PD and the Rapides Parish District Attorney's Office. But, it left a lot of questions unanswered.  There was nothing found that might explain why Prevot fired on the officer and fled before killing himself.

 

One 16-year-old boy has been arrested  by the APD and a search is on for a 15-year-old male suspect. The two juveniles are believed to be responsible for "numerous burglaries and thefts" reported over the past week in the western part of the city. The investigation is continuing.

 

The Vernon parish sheriff’s office reports a Hutton man is in jail, accused of allegedly sexually abusing two minors for over a 16 year period. 57 year old Jeffry Johnson is also facing face additional charges. Johnson was arrested and booked into the Vernon Parish Jail Tuesday

 

Police in Jennings have arrested an man in the death of his 7 week old daughter.  32 year old James Ray Miller to police that he squeezed and shook the child because she'd been crying. Miller had been charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile after the child was admitted to a hospital in critical condition Monday. That charge is expected to be increased to a murder charge now that the child has died.  

 

Congressional auditors say about 30 million people will have to fork over more money to cover their 2018 taxes next year because employers withheld too little from their paychecks.  Member of the Louisiana CPA Society, Bill Potter says one of the changes made in the tax act is, there is no longer a dependency exemption. Potter says taxpayers may not see the refund they are used to, if they see one at all.

 

Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry has told the USA Today Network there’s no doubt he can beat John Bel Edwards if he challenges the Democrat in next year’s governor’s race. Landry says he’s receiving a lot of encouragement to run and it’s becoming harder to tell his supporters he won’t mount a campaign against Edwards.

 

Good news for 45-hundred low income families on a waiting list to receive assistance to send their young kids to child care. They will be removed from that list and have the opportunity enroll in a child care center thanks to a 39-million dollar one-time investment by the federal government. Executive Director of the Early Childhood operations, Lisa Brochard says Letters have gone out  to those families.

 

The attorney for a 19-year-old shot by a state trooper says he’s got questions as to why his client was shot in back when the officer claimed she was being rushed by his client following a traffic stop. The lawyer, Don Cazayoux, didn’t identify his client, who was a passenger, but says something just doesn’t add up about Trooper Kasha Domingue’s account of the incident. The shooting was not captured on video.  The attorney for the trooper claims the body cam was defective and the patrol vehicle was new and not yet equipped with a dash cam.

 

For the first time in years Louisianans on the Affordable Care Act’s individual markets will see a rate decrease. The 6.4 percent drop will be put in place for 2019. Blue Cross Louisiana Spokesperson Robin Mayhall says after several years of rate hikes related to regulatory uncertainty surrounding the program, things have started to level out.

 

Among the new Louisiana laws going into effect yesterday is the "Good Samaritan Law," which provides legal protection for those who rescue pets and children from hot cars. The law declares, "There shall be no liability on the part of a person for property damage or trespass to a motor vehicle, if the damage was caused while the person was rescuing" a pet or a child. Before a would-be Good Samaritan goes smashing windows, however, there are certain steps that must be followed: a "good-faith" attempt to locate the owner of the vehicle; a call to emergency services; a note left on the vehicle; and the willingness to wait nearby with the child or pet until help arrives.

 

A 2-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were among three shot on Wednesday afternoon on I-10 in New Orleans East.  The 16-year-old was shot in the leg, the 2-year-old had graze wounds to the shoulder and sternum and the third victim was a 22-year-old man who was shot in the leg and forearm. The NOPD believes the people who were shot were "innocent victims."

 

Switchblades are legal to own in Louisiana. The devices have been banned for decades. If it comes as a surprise to you, then you’re not alone, it was a surprise to bill sponsor Covington Representative Mark Wright. Wright says he knows legalizing switchblade knives is not a pressing issue, but he says that shouldn’t stop lawmakers from pursuing common sense legislation, even if it’s small in scale.

 

18-year-old Louisiana Tech student Mason Andrews who is attempting to become the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world has already broken one world record during his journey. Andrews has become the youngest pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic. Next stop Croatia and then it’s on to Egypt.

 

A pregnant woman and her unborn child are expected to survive after a man who police believe was impaired crashed a car in a Baton Rouge Parking garage, pinning a woman between two vehicles. The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries, including a fractured face and a broken leg. However, authorities announced  Wednesday afternoon that Prognosis for the woman and her unborn child is good.
