The suspected killer accused in the random shooting deaths of three people has pleaded not guilty to two of the murders which occurred in East Feliciana Parish. 36-year-old Ryan Sharpe entered two pleas yesterday and requested a public defender. Sharpe also allegedly shot and killed a man in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Governor John Bel Edwards participated in a criminal justice reform event organized by the Pew Charitable Trusts in Washington DC yesterday.  The Edwards Administration helped passed ten new laws allowing for the early release of non-violent prisoners.  Nearly two-thousand were released earlier this month.  U.S. Senator John Kennedy says Edwards criminal justice reform effort isn’t working, saying some who were released under the new guidelines are already back in jail. But, the numbers don’t support Kennedy’s claims.. Nearly 2,000 non-violent prisoners were released as part of the reform program. Fewer than 10 have returned to jail.

A new report from Wallet hub ranking which states are the most charitable, is giving Louisiana low marks.. Charitable was defined in the report as “volunteering and service” and “charitable giving." Utah came in at #1 as the most charitable state in the nation. Louisiana came in at #47, #50 being the least charitable. That distinction by the way went to Hawaii.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is today slated to once again testify before a US House committee that there is no need to worry that elections in Louisiana are being hacked by Russians. Schedler says the main concern is over online voter registration lists, but Louisiana was not one of the states identified as a target of hackers during last year’s election.

Kyle Duncan, the Louisiana nominee for the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals seat will go before the Senate Judiciary committee today.  Attorney General Jeff Landry has been lobbying for Duncan, who was nominated by President Donald Trump. He says especially for conservatives, this is an easy selection. Senator John Kennedy sits on the committee and has yet to make a decision on if Duncan should be judge. Landry says it’s a bit odd that Kennedy is taking so long to decide on an individual with Duncan’s record and skill set.

State Police say a 49-year-old Slidell man was killed when a boat struck his vehicle while he was traveling in St. James Parish. Trooper Jesse LaGrange says the boat trailer detached from a vehicle that was towing it, striking David Burvant’s vehicle. Burvant died from his injuries.

A 17-year-old, who was on the football team at North Webster High School in Springhill, was fatally shot Monday night and police are searching for the gunman. Police say a 45-caliber pistol was used to shoot Jaylen Thomas. 16 shots were fired and police say they have a person of interest.

A Livingston Parish woman is under arrest after allegedly falsely claiming she was raped by a sheriff’s deputy.  38-year-old Sherri Penton claimed a deputy sexually assaulted her in his car after meeting on an internet dating site.   The trooper claimed the sex was consensual.  State police says they didn’t find evidence in the deputy’s car.  Penton is at the East Baton Rouge Jail.

Its Grambling State versus Alcorn State for a third consecutive season in Saturday’s SWAC Championship game in Houston. The winner advances to play North Carolina A-and-T in the Celebration Bowl on December 16th in Atlanta.

LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron has said he expects offensive coordinator Matt Canada will seek a head coaching job. Football analyst Mike Detillier says there appears to be a rift between Coach “O” and Canada and he believes the young play caller has coached his last game at LSU.
