State Police report that a single vehicle crash Saturday night claimed the life of a Trout woman. The accident occurred shortly before eleven Saturday night, on highway 8 near Fishville, when 37 year old Misty Clark lost control, left the highway and struck a culvert. Authorities say Clark, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The full Senate could hear arguments today on a bill that would strip local jurisdictions of the ability to mandate real estate developers set aside a certain portion of their housing as lower rent. Metairie Senator Dan Martiny, the bill’s sponsor, says affordable housing initiatives should be voluntary, not mandatory. Martiny says rent prices and housing availability should not be subject to local control.

An LSU survey finds 70-percent of state residents believe women face a lot or some discrimination in society and that’s a seven-percent increase from a year ago. LSU Public Policy Research Lab director, Doctor Michael Henderson, says most Louisiana residents agree gender inequality is a real problem in this state.

Louisiana is receiving a 1.2 billion dollar block grant from the federal government to construct flood protection projects in southeast Louisiana. There’s been a push for this funding after the 2016 August flood caused an estimated 8.7 billion dollars in damage. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says the block grant will go right to the state and skip the red tape. Graves expects the money to be available by summer.

Authorities have charged a juvenile with attempted carjacking after he allegedly tried to steal an unmarked State Police unit in New Orleans last week. Sergeant Jared Sandifer says an on-duty trooper was sitting in the vehicle at the time and fired his weapon at the teen after he tried entering the vehicle. No one was injured..

That wasn’t the case in Baton Rouge Sunday morning when a man attempted to break into a vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot and was shot and killed by someone sitting inside the vehicle who then took off. Surveillance video showed the 18 year old man attempting to break into several vehicles before picking the one that cost him his life. Authorities say they have no suspects yet in the case..

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has yet to detect any cases of chronic wasting disease in Louisiana deer. L-D-W-F Deer Program Manager Jonathan Bordelon says they’ve tested 188 deer in East Carroll, Madison and Tensas Parishes after C-W-D was found in a buck just five miles away from the Louisiana-Mississippi border. Bordelon says C-W-D is a neurodegenerative disease and it causes irreversible brain damage and infected deer can spread the disease even before symptoms develop.
