National Reptile Awareness Day is Monday October 21st, so we decided to get a head start! Reptiles are a vital part of a healthy environment, with common snakes helping to keep down bugs and rodents that would love to make a nest in your home. Reptile Day is an excellent opportunity to educate yourself on the wonders of the scaly world, and perhaps learn an appreciation for them. Help us get a jump start. ?Admission $1.00. City Park Players’ Theatre Workshop Coming October 19

City Park Players is pleased to present a CPP Theatre Workshop free of charge on Saturday, October 19, with guest speaker Pia Wyatt. Wyatt is a Professor of Theatre and Dance and Associate Director of Theatre and Dance at Northwestern State University School of Creative and Performing Arts in Natchitoches, LA.

The workshop will feature two sessions. The acting session, from 9:30-11:00 am, will explore “Auditioning Tips”. Actors will learn how to make a great impression and stand out at a live audition, and will get the inside scoop of what casting directors look for when hiring actors. There will be an option for the participants to present an audition and receive feedback.

The directing session, from 11:00am-12:30pm, will cover “Directing for the Stage”. New and experienced directors will learn and discuss the demands and problems of directing as you study and practice essential tools of directing. Topics covered will include how to find a concept, how to block a scene, and how to successfully work with actors.

The CPP Theatre Workshop will be held at the Rapides Foundation building in Downtown Alexandria. This workshop is brought to you free of charge as a community service, but pre-registration is required due to limited seating. 25th Annual Cenla Fat Tire Festival (CFTF) “THE KISATCHIE GRAVEL FONDO”

October 18th and 19th, 2019

The event will take place at the Kincaid Recreation Area in the Kisatchie National Forest near Alexandria, LA.  CFTF will have guided rides each day on the many trails near the Recreation Area.  For more information, call Red River Cyclery (318) 473-4256 or Steve (318) 419-0800.

REGISTRATION:

The registration fee is $35.00 for KBC members and $40.00 for non-members. Onsite registration is $45.00 for non-KBC members and $40.00 for KBC members.  This fee covers a Guided Friday night ride.   Guided Saturday morning rides, continental breakfast, lunch, Saturday afternoon Rodeo and event T-Shirt, maps/cue sheets, and snacks.  Non-rider’s registration fee of $5.00 covers the Saturday lunch. Kids fee $20.00 (no T-shirt).  Non-Rider and Kid Registration is only on-site at packet pickup.   Packet pick-up/on-site registration will begin at the campground from 5 – 6 pm on Friday and from 6 – 8:00 am Saturday.

RIDES:

Saturday’s Mtn. Bike rides will be on the trails in and around Kincaid Recreation Area.   There will be rides for those of all skill levels.  The shorter rides are geared toward beginner and intermediate riders.  The long rides are geared toward hard intermediate and expert riders.  Ride leaders will accompany each group.  Maps/cue sheets will be provided and trails will be marked.  Groups will assemble at the Pavilion area.   Also, a Friday night ride will depart from the campground at 7:00 pm.  Bring your lighting system and join the fun.

For those participants who are new to off-road cycling, we will have an introductory ride on Saturday.  This ride will cover a shorter distance over easy terrain.  Guides will be along to assist with riding skills and with the distance and pace determined by the group.

Be prepared to ride in all types of conditions found on these trails:  Mud, single-track, sand, hills, and logs/roots/limbs.  Carry enough water and food to sustain you for the distance you plan to ride.  Rider support (water/sag) will be provided at points along the trail Saturday only.

Rides are geared toward adult riders.  Children and young adults are welcome, but must be physically capable and equipped to complete the ride distance.  A parent or other responsible adult must accompany younger riders on the trails.

2019 KISATCHIE GRAVEL FONDO – 20, 40, and 63-mile routes.  The ride will start at 8:00 a.m. from the Kincaid Pavilion Area.

ACCOMMODATIONS:

Kincaid Recreation Area has developed campsites with electricity and water.  Campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Camping fee is $25.00 per night ($30.00 for double sites) and is payable at the campground entrance.  Due to limited space in Kincaid Campground, we recommend you arrive early to select a site and/or share sites with other participants.  Other lodging options are the Valentine Campground off of Hwy 28 East, and motels located in Alexandria, approximately 15 miles away.  Primitive camping is available at the Evangeline Camp located on FS 273 (Messina Road).  US Forest Service Ranger’s Office 318-793-9644.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

Saturday afternoon will provide a little friendly competition in the Bicycle Rodeo events. Events should include a slow race, bike toss, barrel race, log pull and hill climb.  Sign up at the registration area.

PARTICIPANTS UNDER AGE 18 MUST HAVE A RELEASE SIGNED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.
